Deep in the Xing'an Mountains, ginseng digger Liu Laosuan and his friend venture into the wilds to hunt for ginseng, only to encounter bizarre misfortunes: one is found dead, the other vanishes. With no way out, he seeks the help of Ma Sanye, an old hunter exiled from the village years ago. But no sooner does Ma Sanye arrive than strange events unfold one after another: the soul-guiding rooster drops dead, the mourners at the funeral feast fall into hallucinations, someone buries paper effigies in an abandoned house at night, and the ancient well spews poisonous fish that claim lives, throwing the century-old village into panic. Meanwhile, a mysterious figure claiming to know the truth of a decade-old case appears, subtly linking past secrets to the present horrors. As Ma Sanye and Xu Yingzi delve deeper, they unravel the threads, and a long-buried, shocking conspiracy gradually comes to light.
