Young Fang Jin stays behind at the abandoned, overlooked sword furnace of the Xuanyang Sect on Mount Cangwu. His father vanished mysteriously, leaving only a dead furnace fire and a pile of common iron. Elder forge master Huo Yan and his disciple insist on reclaiming the sword furnace, but only Huo Lingxi senses that the old furnace hides a secret. Fang Jin painstakingly tempers and refines, and unexpectedly forges a sentient ancient sword from ordinary iron. As the secrets unravel, he discovers that his father did not abandon the furnace and leave, but was plotted against by a traitor within the sect. Using the power of the sword spirit, Fang Jin fights his enemies, ultimately protects the old furnace, and returns the art of forging common iron into spirit-bound weapons to the sect.
