The story revolves around taxi driver Koji Usami (played by Takuya Kimura), who works tirelessly every day to support his family, but is physically and mentally exhausted by the relentless pressures of his daughter's tuition, taxi inspection fees, and rent. One day, Koji receives a special request—to take an elderly woman, Sumire Takano (played by Chieko Baisho), from Shibamata, Tokyo, to a nursing home in Hayama, Kanagawa. "Before I leave Tokyo, I'd like to visit a few places I've always wanted to see," Sumire calmly asks. As the taxi travels through the streets of Japan, the two strangers gradually open up to each other, and Sumire slowly reveals the turbulent story of her life. This chance journey not only touches their hearts but also leaves an unforgettable, beautiful mark on each other's ordinary lives.
