Mo Dexian (Xiao Zhan), a mechanic at a machinery factory, flees with his family among refugees into the mountains, settling in Gezhi Town with anti-aircraft artillery captain Xiao Yan (Peng Yuchang) and his men, who were left behind by the main force. However, the peaceful life of Mo Dexian, his wife Xia Cheng (Zhou Yiran), the old master (Yang Xinming), and their son Mo Dengxian (Yan Zhidu) is shattered by the unexpected arrival of a small Japanese reconnaissance squad. The townsfolk refuse to back down, fighting desperately to protect their home, igniting a life-and-death struggle where folk wisdom clashes with regular armed forces.
