The Bystander

After being away from home for sixteen years, Chen Jiahui (Chen Kun) returns to his hometown upon learning that his father, Chen Weimin (Wang Jinsong), is critically ill. But his father passes away without leaving a single word. After the funeral, while sorting through their father's belongings with his older brother Chen Jiaxing (Wang Yanhui) and older sister Chen Jiayuan (Liu Mintao), Jiahui gradually senses that his father harbored many hidden secrets. Plagued by confusion and unresolved feelings, Jiahui begins to trace his father's life, trying to piece together the true image of the man. In the process, a family secret buried for sixteen years slowly comes to light, and at the heart of this secret lies the knot that Jiahui and his father never managed to untie in their lifetime.
