Frontline

This is the first Japanese film to be based on real events, with an original screenplay, centered on the global COVID-19 pandemic that humanity collectively experienced. The story is set against the backdrop of the luxury cruise ship Diamond Princess, which docked at Yokohama Port on February 3, 2020, and subsequently became the site of Japan's first mass COVID-19 infection. On board were 3,711 passengers and crew from 56 countries. After docking at Yokohama, health checks and sample collection from symptomatic individuals confirmed 10 infections, marking Japan's first encounter with the threat of an unknown virus for which treatment had yet to be established. In such circumstances, those who rushed to the frontlines were the doctors and nurses who prioritized saving lives above all else, even temporarily setting aside their own families.
