Northeast Era: Conscience in the Snow

Set in a snow-covered village in Northeast China, this story follows the idle Chen Gui, who, egged on by his shady friend Er Zhuzi, sells counterfeit goods and swindles his neighbors for grain. The upright villagers Fu Dakui, Wang Xiulan, and Yang Yang, unable to bear his self-destruction, patiently counsel and lend a helping hand when he hits rock bottom. In the end, Chen Gui sees the light, abandons his crooked ways, and holds onto his conscience. Through honest living, he earns the respect of the entire village, showcasing the warmth of rural humanity and the redemption of a guilty soul.
