Su Nian, a Suzhou embroidery inheritor, returns to the old streets of Zhenhu with her grandmother's legacy—Split-Silk Shadow Embroidery—and single-handedly keeps her struggling embroidery workshop alive. Jiang Che of a machine-embroidery conglomerate declares hand embroidery outdated production capacity, publicly mocks Su Nian's grandmother, then sets an exhibition trap to block Su Nian from competing. Su Nian organizes her grandmother's teaching notes, breaks Split-Silk Shadow Embroidery down into documentable records, and completes her embroidery entry within three months, successfully exhibiting it. At an international expo, foreign judges praise her work as showing the limits of craftsmanship. Jiang Che stands before her display in long silence, then quietly admits he finally understands. Su Nian returns to the workshop, wipes her grandmother's photo clean, rethreads her needle, and begins her next piece.
