Lin Mo, a gentle Chinese literature student, meets a mysterious woman named Su Yeli on a rainy night—only to be caught in a collapsing alley. On the brink of death, a fragmented nightmare spirit is implanted in him, making him the world's only half-human, half-nightmare. From then on, he is torn between his human nature and his nightmare nature: he keeps a mortal's kindness and empathy, yet is driven by the instinct to feed on nightmares. He can no longer touch the warmth of ordinary life, and whenever his emotions run wild, he devours the life force of the living.
