Empresses in the Palace: Forbidden Love in the Forbidden City

On a snowy night deep within the palace, Zhen Huan—battered by relentless court intrigue—and the gentle, deeply devoted Prince Guo gradually fall in love through countless secret acts of aid and mutual solace. Though keenly aware of their vastly different stations and the gulf between sovereign and subject, the two still cross the forbidden line amid suppression and longing, beginning a secret romance that can never see the light. Yet the Forbidden City never permits true freedom or love. When a tryst is accidentally exposed, they fall under the watchful eye and threats of imperial power. To protect her lover and preserve their lives, Zhen Huan is forced to conceal the truth, bearing fear, guilt, and humiliation alone—while Prince Guo still believes the two can be together. As the secret unravels, the emperor flies into a rage and the power struggles escalate step by step. This forbidden-palace love, born of true feeling, ultimately hurtles toward utter destruction amid suspicion, betrayal, and cruel punishment.
