Blindness

Li Tianhan is a sensitive teenager plagued by self-doubt. His father, Li Yifeng, is an ambitious surgeon; his mother, Xu Shuyi, a doctor's wife who keeps the family in order; and his younger brother, Tianrui, a warm-hearted boy. To outsiders, they are the perfect family. But Tianhan has always sensed his mother's unhappiness, as if this perfect facade is held together only by sheer willpower. After entering a prestigious school, he becomes his parents' pride, reinforcing his belief that they only care about appearances. He starts skipping school and becomes infatuated with a mysterious woman, Luo Xuejin. Meanwhile, Shuyi unexpectedly reunites with Xuejin and their old flame reignites. Though Shuyi reveals her truest self to Xuejin, she is convinced that this true self cannot give her the life everyone envies. She chooses to blind her inner eye and live in denial to this day. As her son gradually uncovers the secret of her past love with Xuejin, and her deep-seated fear of blindness resurfaces, Shuyi steps step by step into an abyss with no end in sight. This film is adapted from the award-winning novel of the same name by author Liu Zijie.
