Ma Teng, Don't Go

Ma Teng (Lin Gengxin), a penniless, loveless, and carefree loser, is approaching middle age with nothing to show for it—a certified waste in everyone's eyes. Old Lin (Li Youbin), a retired steel mill backbone who has lived by ironclad rules his whole life, should be enjoying his golden years, but both his body and mind are flashing red flags. The two, who would never have crossed paths, meet through a serendipitous caregiver interview, sparking a hilarious and heartwarming mutual rescue. Seeking release, Old Lin pins his hopes of assisted suicide on this unreliable caregiver. Though Ma Teng wants to earn money to fulfill his daughter's wish, he lacks the guts to take a life, so he can only use his optimism to provide emotional support to Old Lin in their daily interactions. On a special journey, the two forge a life-and-death friendship, finding a glimmer of hope to hold onto amidst the shadows of illness and death, bravely embracing the unknown life ahead.
