Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moon

As the Battle of Shanghai erupts, cook Meng Wanfu (Huang Chengcheng) seeks only to survive but is forcibly conscripted by the Nationalists. Brigade Commander Zhang Yunkui (Wang Yang), devoted to his country, is driven into a desperate situation by the blunders of high command. On the battlefield, Zhang, resolved to die, leads his remaining troops to break through and rendezvous with reinforcements, entrusting Meng with the task of delivering news of his death to Nanjing. Miraculously surviving, Zhang is falsely branded a coward by the Nationalist high command. After futile appeals, he meets Xie Yufeng, a New Fourth Army regiment commander, and finds renewed hope. He returns home to organize a local militia against the Japanese and joins the Communist Party. Meanwhile, Meng Wanfu, by a twist of fate, cares for Zhang's family and shares hardships with Zhang's wife, Ding Yujiao (Wan Qian). Guided by underground Communist Zeng Xuefei, both eventually devote themselves to the communist revolution. In the nation's hour of peril, both soldiers at the front and civilians in the rear come to see that only the Communist Party of China can save the nation. With victory in the War of Resistance, on another mid-autumn full moon night, the resilient Chinese people finally see clear skies after the clouds.
