Wind Across Mazong Mountain

The story unfolds in Mazongshan Town, Subei County—Gansu Province’s only border county—a rugged borderland on the Gobi. Mazongshan Town has earned honors including “National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization,” “National Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress,” and “Among China’s First Batch of Model Safe Border Townships.” Using a real-name report as its entry point, the drama follows Chaogetu, a grassroots cadre who has guarded the border for more than twenty years. Because of a misunderstanding caused by competition among businesses in the same industry, he is reported under his real name. Several photos that seem to “confirm the allegations” plunge him into a whirlpool of rumors about abusing power for personal gain and moral misconduct, leaving him under enormous public and family pressure.
