A Wrench Can Fix a Machine, But Not a Heart

For three straight years, the auto repair shop never lost money. At year's end, every mechanic got a 20,000-yuan red envelope. But the mechanical repair team leader thought it was too little and brought his crew to force a takeover, demanding half the profits—if refused, they would all defect, buy the big workshop across the street, and steal the customers. Qian Guofu emptied his savings on the spot to buy the 2,000-square-meter workshop opposite, hung a banner reading "Zhaoming's Original Crew," and handed out cards spreading rumors that Zhaoming was on the brink of a cash-flow collapse. Of the twelve mechanics, he poached eight. Boss Lin Zhao did not argue; he quietly expanded the shop to three times its size. On the eighth day of the first lunar month, both shops opened on the same day. The 130 Yuanhang Blue heavy trucks—they never knew to their dying day—all the vehicles queuing up daily on this street for repairs were from the boss's father's logistics company fleet.
