The Only One

17-year-old Yu Yan (Zhang Jingyi) lives with her father (Chen Minghao), mother (Jiang Qinqin), and brother (Xin Yunlai) in the Yu family's fish offal shop, run by her grandparents. As the only hearing person in a deaf family, she has grown up navigating between her family's silent world and the hearing world outside, accustomed to serving as their bridge and interpreter. Her family's love and reliance cling to her like vines, yet the burning desire to venture into a broader world blazes within her heart. A sudden upheaval forces Yu Yan to confront the dilemma of pursuing her dreams versus defending her family. Amid the choices of growing up, she strives to find herself and, in doing so, discovers a song she can share with her family. This film is adapted from the French movie La Famille Bélier.
